Athletics have always been a part of Amy's life as long as she can remember. Beginning with swimming and gymnastics, she eventually discovered her true passion as a long distance runner. Little did she know when she stumbled briefly upon Bikram Yoga in 1999, that it would eventually open doors to a lifestyle she embraced. Even though she turned to yoga in early 2013 to deal with flexibility issues from years of distance running, she soon discovered the far-reaching benefits yoga had to offer. It was this experience that engendered the desire in her heart to pursue yoga training so that she could share the beauty of yoga with others.

Amy became a certified Senior Yoga Instructor through YogaFit in 2013, completed her 200-hour teacher training with Larry Thraen at Joy Yoga in 2015, and is a registered instructor through Yoga Alliance. She thoroughly enjoys teaching what she is so passionate about because she feels it is extremely gratifying to "turn people onto yoga". Amy enjoys watching her students blossom and grow, and believes their lives will be not only enriched, but also more meaningful spiritually, physically, and mentally!

When Amy isn't practicing or teaching yoga, she is out on the Houston bike trails or kayaking the waterways of Austin, Texas.

I started my yoga practice in Colombia when I was a teenager looking for myself and hoping to find my spiritual path. I quickly realized that the practice of yoga was having very positve effects on my body, my mind and emotions because it gave me strength, flexibility, calmness and balance .

My own positive experience with yoga made me want to share this with other people, and that is when I made my commitment to teaching yoga. I traveled to Chile and became certified in the methods of Ashtanga Vinyasa, dynamic yoga and Jyotim (alignment). When I returned to Colombia I also became certified with Rainbow Kids Yoga for families and fun Yoga for children.

Besides Yoga I practice different energy and spiritual healing techniques, in myself and in other people. I believe they complement each other beautifully for those who are looking for self-knowledge and healing. I'm passionate about what I do and that makes immensely happy!

I started practicing yoga when I was in high school due to depression. Yoga helped bring me back into my body. It ultimately helped me take control of my life. The body is one of our strongest tools and I think that it is important to take care of it. My classes are challenging but ultimately aim to reconnect you back to who you really are. You are strong, infinite, and more than able to do anything you put your mind to.

I earned my yoga teacher certification in December of 2015 from the Yoga Institute in Houston and have been practicing yoga for about 10 years. I went on to get my Yin Yoga certificate from the Svasta Yoga School in November 2016. I believe yoga can be used to align the mind, body and spirit and that is how I teach. I love having students of all ability and experience levels in my class and believe in offering both challenges and modifications in poses and letting the student find their pose within that. I love to create a connection with my students and provide a safe place for them to explore their practice.

It's all about taking time to quiet the mind, live in the present and just be - no judgment.

I am an avid runner and hiker who grew up in Portland, Oregon and relocated to Houston in 2007. My yoga practice began when I started running marathons in my 20's. I found Yoga balanced out my passion for hiking and running guiding me to a healthy life both physically and mentally.

In 2014 I decided to deepen my practice and completed my 200 hour RYS teacher training here in Houston and I have continued my yoga education; currently enrolled in my 300 hour RYS teacher training.

My goal as a teacher is to provide a potent physical practice while also encouraging students to claim their full potential and gain confidence and new possibilities in their practice. I truly believe that yoga is accessible to everyone regardless of fitness level, age, experience or background.

I am known for my loving, positive and easy spirit. I completed my 200 hr teacher training in May 2015 in Houston and committed to improving wellness for myself and others through continual growth, daily practice and an open mind. I love yoga because it feels amazing and there is always something new to discover. When I am not practicing yoga, I am working as a software marketing engineer (and probably eating tacos). Hope to meet you soon!

I started my yoga journey back in college. Growing up as a dancer and a gymnast it was a form of exercise I naturally gravitated towards but I never got that serious about my practice until about 3 years ago. I had a job, relationship and lifestyle that no longer served me and was unhappy with the direction that my life was heading. That's when I turned to yoga and the transformation of my mind, body, and soul began. It empowered me to make a complete lifestyle shift and I am now living a life that I love and am passionate about. I am looking forward to sharing my journey and all the light and love that yoga has brought me with everyone I meet!
